Learn Local: Tarpology 101 - The Art & Science of Setting up Bomber Tarps
Ready to live under a tarp this fall? If not, here’s your chance. Learn knots and fundamental techniques for changing your camping game with Tarpology 101 -The Art & Science of Setting up Bomber Tarps.
Taught by veteran Tarpologist Dr. Russell Kramer.
Cost: Sliding Scale $10-$20*
*Minimum covers cost of running the Learn Local Series and use of space. Additional amounts go to the facilitator for the gift of their time and may be added at checkout. Refunds with 24 hr notice [no one turned away for lack of funds]
Please Bring your own Tarps, Ropes (Cord/String that is meltable with a lighter - NOT hemp or cotton), Stakes, and anything you think you’d have with you on the river to incorporate such as a paddle.
Dr. Russell Kramer - Russell grew up in CA Sierras camping many a night without tents in ineffective burrito tarp rolls. Something had to change. Always a fan of keeping things simple, he started making his own gear (including tarps) and using them instead of tents when the bugs allowed for it. Good tarp setups have probably saved his life, or at least his sanity, on many rainy expeditions. Tarps and knots were indispensable while doing his PhD work in the first canopy over three season on the Olympic Peninsula. Rain there can top 9 ft per year! Suffice it to say, he knows what he’s doing.
